Maniototo Skyline Flag
Maniototo Skyline Flag
A Flag for the Maniototo
The Maniototo Skyline Flag, designed by Fletcher Dowling, features three equal horizontal stripes of blue, red, and black—colours that represent the Maniototo region. The Southern Cross, from our national flag, sits in the centre of the top blue stripe.
The bottom black stripe has four upward-pointing triangles, their tips reaching into the red stripe, symbolising the four mountain ranges that surround the Maniototo. These colours reflect the region’s iconic sunrises and sunsets, while the triangles represent the shadows cast by the mountains. The Southern Cross shows our pride and patriotism for New Zealand.
This flag was created to represent the Maniototo—flown at events, outside schools, or worn proudly when travelling. It was inspired by the Otago flag, the only official regional flag in New Zealand.
